Green Smoothies for Breakfast

Lucy at Vegan Family House in the UK writes:

"We usually have green smoothies for breakfast now, such a good way to get lots of nutrients into the kids. This is a photo of one from last year. It consisted of (for four people with big glasses) 4 large dark green cabbage leaves from garden, 1 sprig parsley, 1 heaped tsp spirulina, 1 avocado, 2 tablespoons of raw cacao nibs, 2 bananas, dash silver, 1 litre orange juice, 10 brazil nuts and a little agave bashed up in the wonderful Vitamix."

ooh, thanks for the incude :) colloidial silver (if you google it you'll find lots of info!) - a nutritional supplement or can be a medicine in bigger doses... I put a little dash in occasionally.

I don't have a Vitamix (nor the money to purchase one). Can I use just a regular ol' blender, or will it end up too goopy? I'm not a vegetarian, but would like to work on reducing the amount of meat I eat as well as broaden the types of food I eat.

Good question -- I've used a regular blender when I've been away from home, and although they make serviceable smoothies, they are not the same. I find that my Vitamix blends things smoother and creamier; with a regular blender I end up with chunks and bits of fiber that are unblended. You also have to watch out with a regular blender that you don't burn the motor out with too much blending.

But someone told me that the "Magic Bullet" is a decent cheap alternative to the Vitamix, maybe you can check it out.

HM, I am looking at this recipe and going "I wonder how I'd convert this to a recipe for one person".
