Raw Vegan Breakfast for Five

From Sheri Fischer at Green and Crunchy, here's a typical raw breakfast for her and her family. She writes, "I am a raw vegan mama and I am raising 5 little raw vegan kiddos. I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen :)

"On the plates, clockwise from top, we have one organic orange, one groovy green smoothie, a handful of walnut pieces, a homemade raw energy bar (we call them Earth Bars), a scoop of frozen organic wild blueberries, and a steel ramekin of our supplements (vitamin D, B12, and vegan DHA/EPA)."

Times by five:

I'm not raw, Sheri, but you can make my breakfast any day!

Oh, and I was just wondering, what does the pediatrician say about children being raw? I've never heard of small children being raised on raw diets before, because it's supposedly too difficult to meet nutritional requirements. The supplements obviously help, but are there any other special considerations? Like I said, just wondering...

i found a new blog to follow!!

i'm curious about the energy bar too.

penny - i think the considerations are the same as non-raw veganism - b-12 should be supplemented. and she has a lil container of b12, and d and dha supps.

Hi Penny,

What does my pediatrician think about my 5 raw vegan kiddos? Well, the pediatrician wishes more of her little patients ate the way my kids do! She has no concerns whatsoever about my 5 children being raw. My kids eat a wide variety of fresh raw fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds, sprouts, some whole grains and beans. Most of it organic. What's to be concerned about? It's an indulgent, delicious way of eating and is a nutrient-dense way to grow little bodies. I cover any gaps with the supplements mentioned above. My hubby and I are big foodies and we LOVE getting creative with our food and preparing lovely meals. My kids are NOT lacking when it comes to food :) I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen!

I've had oodles of requests for the earth bar recipe, so I will post that on my blog soon. Since there is no real recipe (I wing it), I'll re-make them and make a note of what I do. They are really easy and quite yummy!

Oh, Penny, that smoothie has about 50% raw leafy greens (spinach and kale that day), several ripe bananas, lots of frozen strawberries, a handful of frozen mango chunks, a stalk of celery, a chunk of avocado that was lurking about in the fridge, fresh ground flax seeds, some hempseeds, some spirulina and dulse, 1-2 medjool dates, and thinned out with filtered water (reverse osmosis). Yummy and nutrition-packed! I switch it up and rarely make the same type of smoothie twice, just add your leafy greens and some fruit, maybe some nuts and seeds and other veggies, and go from there -- the combinations are endless and it becomes a meal in a glass! You could google 'green smoothie recipes' for lots of good ideas.

That breakfast looks so wonderful! I'd love the recipe for the earth balls too... I'd love to be able to see your blog as well -- the little I could see before it went invitation only was awesome.

Love the fact you're a vegan mama!!!! I wish that I had been vegan when my kids were babies. Now that they are late teens(one is 18 and joined the Marines, so yeah meat eater:P)and my oldest daughter of 16, refuses to be vegan. Sigh!!!! I am still working on the 11 year old. I have more time with her! Bwhahahahahaha!
I would love to know where you found those dishes!!!!????
Keep eating live!
